Children Ministry

The purpose of our ministry is to teach children the character of God through His Word so that they may love, adore and worship Him.

Junior Worship and Junior Sunday School are the key activities of the Children Ministry. About 70 children are registered for Junior Worship and / or Junior Sunday School. On average, 30 children attend Junior Worship while 50 children attend Junior Sunday School.

Pre-Primary and Primary 1-3 children attend Junior Worship from 10am to 11am, on Sundays. The teaching material for children up to Primary 3 is a material from Lifeway Christian Resources. Hymns are taught during Junior Worship. To inculcate the importance of prayer, Primary 3 boys and girls are appointed as prayer leaders.

Scripture Sunday, carried out quarterly during Junior Worship, was introduced to encourage the children to remember scripture verses. The children participate in a quiz, based on scripture verses learnt in the previous quarter, to earn points. Children who accumulate the most number of points in a given year are given token rewards at the end of the year.

Pre-Primary and Primary 1-6 children attend Junior Sunday School from 11.15am to 12.15pm. The teaching material for children up to Primary 3 is from Lifeway Christian Resources. The material for children from Primary 4 to 6 is based on character traits from the Institute of Basic Life Principles (IBLP).
Contact Time, carried out quarterly during Junior Sunday School, was introduced for the teachers to bond with the children that they are teaching through activities in a relaxed and interactive environment. The activities are aged-appropriate, simple yet engaging for the children. Examples of activities are art and craft, games, sports or even simple baking.

More than 30 dedicated teachers serve in the Children’s Ministry. Teachers meet every quarter to discuss learning points from the preceding quarter to strengthen the children ministry.

In 2011, we introduced the children from Primary 1 to 6 to handbells. The response was encouraging. About 30 children participated in our “All things bright and beautiful” concert in July 2011 to celebrate our church anniversary. The handbell choir is currently practising for the forthcoming “Christmas at Simei” event and Christmas Service.

A children’s camp is organized on alternate years. The last children’s camp took place from 2 to 4 Dec 2010 at Camp Challenge Sembawang. The children spent the first day of the camp mainly on outdoor activities. The key message for the camp was “The Third Commandment”. The children presented what they learnt at the Finale Night, with many parents attending. A few parents joined the children for a night walk to Sembawang Park and back. A total of 23 children participated in the Children’s Camp.

On years when there is no children’s camp, a full-day outing is organized for the children in the month of December.
